Full Prescriptive Authority States
PMHNPs in these states can prescribe controlled substances (including Schedule II) independently with a DEA X-waiver, no physician collaborator required:
AZ, CO, CT (after 3 yrs + 2,000 hrs), DE, HI, ID, IA, ME, MD, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, ND, OR, RI, SD, VT, WA, WY, AK, WV.
California, Florida, Texas, New York, and most southern states require collaborative practice agreements with a psychiatrist for Schedule II prescribing. These are renewable annually, but add administrative overhead.
