If you hold a compact RN license from another compact state and Colorado is not your primary state of residence, you may practice in CO under your home-state compact privilege. If Colorado will become your primary residence, you must obtain a Colorado RN license through endorsement.
Apply on the DORA My License Office portal
Colorado nursing licenses are managed by the Colorado Board of Nursing under the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Create an account at mylicense.colorado.gov (My License Office), select "Registered Nurse, Endorsement," and complete the online application. Pay the endorsement fee (~$43; verify the current amount at dora.colorado.gov, Colorado maintains among the lowest nursing licensure fees in the country).
Authorize Nursys electronic license verification
Colorado participates in Nursys. Authorize Nursys to release your current license record to the Colorado Board of Nursing within your application. If your home state is not on Nursys, request official paper verification from your state board and mail it to DORA in Denver.
Complete the criminal background check
Colorado requires a criminal background check through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and FBI. Follow the fingerprinting instructions in your My License Office application.
