Apply through the Michigan Online licensing portal (LARA)
Michigan nursing licenses are managed by the Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) under the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). Apply online at michigan.gov/michiganonline, create an account, and select "Registered Nurse, Endorsement." Pay the endorsement fee (~$90; verify the current amount at michigan.gov/lara).
Authorize Nursys electronic license verification
Michigan participates in Nursys. Authorize Nursys to release your current license record to Michigan BPL within your application. If your home state is not on Nursys, request paper verification from your state board and mail it to LARA in Lansing. Paper verification adds 2-3 weeks.
Submit fingerprints for Michigan State Police and FBI background check
Michigan requires a criminal background check through the Michigan State Police (MSP) and FBI. Follow the fingerprinting instructions in your LARA application.
