Confirm compact privilege or endorsement need
Florida is an NLC compact state. If you are licensed in another compact state and Florida is not your primary residence, you may practice in Florida using your home-state compact privilege, no Florida license needed. If Florida will be your primary residence, you must obtain a Florida license through endorsement.
Submit your endorsement application through MQA Online Services
Florida health profession licenses are managed through the Department of Health MQA (Medical Quality Assurance) Online Services portal at flhealthsource.gov. Create an account, select Registered Nurse Endorsement, and complete the application. Pay the $100 endorsement fee online.
Authorize Nursys electronic verification
Florida participates in Nursys. Authorize Nursys to release your license record to the Florida BON within your MQA application. If your home state is not on Nursys, request an official license verification from your state board and mail it to Florida BON. Paper verification adds 2-3 weeks.
Complete IdentoGO fingerprinting for background check
Florida requires electronic fingerprinting through IdentoGO or another approved Live Scan provider. Schedule an appointment at fl.ibtfingerprint.com, pay the rolling fee (~$42.50), and provide the ORI number for the Florida Department of Health. Fingerprint results transmit directly to DOH.
Monitor application status in MQA Online Services
Check your application status at flhealthsource.gov. Florida BON processes complete applications, Nursys verification received + background cleared, in 4-8 weeks. You will receive an email notification when your license is issued. Your license number will also appear in the public Practitioner Profile at flhealthsource.gov.
Understand your NLC multistate status
Florida is an NLC compact state. If Florida is your primary state of residence, your Florida RN license is a multistate license, valid in all other compact states. Nurses residing in another compact state can work in Florida under their home-state license without a separate Florida endorsement.

Continuing education for renewal
Florida RN licenses renew every two years on the last day of the birth month in even or odd years depending on the licensee's birthday. Renewal requires 24 contact hours of continuing education. Florida mandates specific topic hours within that total each renewal cycle; required topics have included HIV/AIDS awareness, domestic violence, prevention of medical errors, and Florida laws and rules applicable to nursing. Check the BON website at flhealthsource.gov for the current mandatory topic breakdown before renewing, requirements vary by renewal cycle and BON rulemaking.
Timeline expectations
Florida BON processes complete endorsement applications, electronic Nursys verification + cleared background check, in 4-8 weeks. Applications requiring paper verification from non-Nursys states or flagged for disclosure review take longer. Florida does not issue temporary permits for RNs pending endorsement, so time your application to make sure your license is active before your target start date.
