Step-by-step: New graduate RN license in Missouri

Step 1: Verify eligibility and gather documents

You need a nursing degree from an MSBN-approved program, a valid Social Security number, and no disqualifying criminal history. Gather your nursing school transcript, a government-issued photo ID, and any documentation for past criminal matters if applicable.

Step 2: Create your MSBN online account

Go to pr.mo.gov/nursing.asp and register for an online services account. Missouri no longer accepts paper applications, all submissions are electronic through the state licensing portal.

Step 3: Submit the application and pay $75

Select "RN Licensure by Examination," complete all sections, and pay the $75 fee by credit or debit card. MSBN confirms receipt by email.

Step 4: Complete IdentoGO fingerprinting (~$43.25)

Missouri requires a fingerprint-based FBI background check processed through IdentoGO. After submitting your application, MSBN provides a service code. Visit any IdentoGO enrollment center, many are located inside Walgreens pharmacies statewide, bring your service code and a photo ID. Results go directly to MSBN.

Your nursing program must send sealed official transcripts directly to MSBN. Electronic transcripts from Parchment or similar services are accepted. International graduates must have credentials evaluated by a NACES-member agency such as CGFNS.

After MSBN approves your application, Pearson VUE sends your Authorization to Test (ATT), typically within 1-2 business days of MSBN approval. Schedule your NCLEX-RN at a Pearson VUE center. Results are reported to MSBN within 48 hours. Do not use the Quick Results service as your license authorization, wait for MSBN to update your portal status.
